Advisory

Reminder: Use of personal fireworks is illegal #LASD #CRESCENTAVALLEY #LACANADAFLINTRIDGE #LACRESCENTA

Personal fireworks, including the ones classified as Safe and Sane, are not legal in the communities of La Crescenta, Montrose, La Canada Flintridge, Kagel Canyon, Big Tujunga, and the Angeles National Forest.

As the Fourth of July weekend approaches and we celebrate community traditions such as barbecues, parades, and the beginning of summer, we would like to remind you the use of fireworks are illegal.  Fireworks can turn a fun celebration into a painful memory if children or adults get injured.

Although legal consumer fireworks can be purchased relatively close to the Crescenta Valley area, all fireworks are hazardous and can cause injury and present a significant threat of fire danger, especially with California facing one of the most severe droughts on record.

Please keep in mind this is an extremely busy holiday for the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station and Los Angeles County Fire Department.  The Sheriff’s Department will have special teams deployed to combat the use of illegal fireworks.

Each year in the Crescenta Valley area, Los Angeles County firefighters respond to fires as a result of the use of illegal fireworks.  Our community is one of the most beautiful places to live, but we live in what is called an “urban interface” surrounded by brush covered canyons and hillsides which makes our neighborhood’s vulnerable to the threat of fire.

Attending a professional fireworks show is truly the safest way to celebrate the Fourth of July.  A local event is the Crescenta Valley Fireworks Association's Fireworks Show and Festival at La Crescenta Elementary School. The festival and fireworks show will take place between 4pm to 10pm.

There are numerous authorized fireworks shows throughout Los Angeles County.  For more information and a list of shows, go to: http://safejuly4th.org/.

Please celebrate responsibly.
