Danville residents reminded of fireworks ban

With the 4th of July holiday this weekend, many residents are already gearing up to head to the curb to light off sparklers, launch bottle rockets and ignite roman candles. The Danville Police Department wishes to remind residents that the use of fireworks is illegal.

Lt. Allan Shields said the reminder is being sent out because many residents believe the fireworks ban only applies to large-scale devices like M-80s. When in reality even seemingly innocuous fireworks devices such as sparklers are not allowed.

“With the drought leaving the hills and yards in Danville extremely dry, it could potentially be very dangerous to be out and using fireworks this week,” Shields warned. He added, “In Contra Costa County alone, firefighters respond to several fires per year, directly attributable to fireworks.”

The Danville Police Department encourages the community to celebrate a safe, happy and fireworks-free 4th of July.

For more information on the fireworks ban, contact Lt. Allan Shields at (925) 314-3700 or [email protected].
