Troopers Investigate Two Crashes within Minutes on US 41

 

Sullivan County—At 5:57 this evening, Indiana State Police and Sullivan County emergency agencies responded to US 41 and State Road 48 in Shelburn for a two-vehicle crash. Preliminary investigation revealed a 2005 Chevrolet SUV, driven by 53-year-old Casey L. Archer of Carbon, IN. was southbound on US 41 and made a left turn to proceed eastbound on SR 48, into the path of a northbound 2004 Dodge Stratus driven by 21-year-old, Sean J. Wansley of Greenwood, IN. The Wansley vehicle then struck the passenger side of the Archer vehicle. Casey Archer was not injured and was cited for failure to yield the right of way. A passenger in the Archer vehicle, Donna K. Archer, age 59 (wife), of Carbon, IN. complained of back and neck pain and was transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital for treatment. Wansley was not injured. Trooper Erick Smith investigated the crash and was assisted by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, Sullivan County EMS, and Thunderbird Fire/Rescue.

 

At 6:08 this evening, Indiana State Police and Sullivan County emergency agencies responded to a three-vehicle crash on US 41 at State Road 54. Preliminary investigation revealed a blue 2015 Chevrolet Sonic, driven by 35-year-old Kevin M. Dash of Sullivan, IN was southbound on US 41 and made a left turn to proceed eastbound on SR 54, into the path of a northbound 2007 Pontiac G5, driven by 31-year-old Jared L. Wilkes of Shelburn, IN. Wilkes was northbound on US 41 in the driving lane and struck the passenger side of the Dash vehicle. The Wilkes vehicle spun and struck a northbound black 2003 Ford pickup that was in the passing lane and driven by 41-year-old James S. Reed of Shelburn, IN. Kevin Dash was transported to Sullivan County Hospital and later airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN for treatment of head lacerations. Dash’s 14-year-old son, Devon Dash, was transported to Sullivan County Community Hospital for treatment of lacerations, and back, leg, and abdomen pain. Devon was later airlifted to Riley’s Children Hospital in Indianapolis for further treatment. James Reed was transported to Sullivan County Hospital for treatment of back pain. Jared Wilkes was not injured. Kevin Dash was cited for failure to yield the right of way and wearing no seatbelt. The crash was investigated by Trooper Shayne Roman. He was assisted by Sullivan City Police, Sullivan County EMS, Carlisle EMS, and Sullivan City Fire/Rescue.
