Mandatory evacuation ordered due to vegetation fire in Lompoc east of Mission Hills

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office has issued a mandatory evacuation for residents in the Cebada Canyon, Gypsy Canyon, Tularosa Road and Mission Hills area due to a vegetation fire that broke out at approximately 1:30 this afternoon east of Mission Hills in Lompoc. Residents in these areas are asked to evacuate immediately.
Approximately 1400 residents are estimated to be impacted by this evacuation. The Santa Barbara County Fire Department is referring to this fire as the Mesa Incident.

Sheriff's Deputies, Sheriff's Search and Rescue Volunteers, California Highway Patrol Officers and California State Parks personnel are actively evacuating residents at this time.

Animal Services is requesting owners needing assistance with small animals to drop them off at the Lompoc Animal Shelter, 1501 West Central and owners needing assistance with large animals to call the Hotline 681-4332.

The American Red Cross is setting up an Evacuation Center at the Trinity Church of the Nazarene located at 500 East North Avenue in Lompoc.

Please avoid the area if all possible. If you must be in the area, please watch for emergency apparatus and drive safely.
