Mandatory evacuation ordered due to vegetation fire in Lompoc east of Mission Hills
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office has issued a mandatory evacuation for residents in the Cebada Canyon, Gypsy Canyon, Tularosa Road and Mission Hills area due to a vegetation fire that broke out at approximately 1:30 this afternoon east of Mission Hills in Lompoc. Residents in these areas are asked to evacuate immediately.
Approximately 1200 residents are estimated to be impacted by this evacuation. The Santa Barbara County Fire Department is referring to this fire as the Mesa Incident.
Sheriff's Deputies, Sheriff's Search and Rescue Volunteers, California Highway Patrol Officers and California State Parks personnel are actively evacuating residents at this time.
Animal Control is requesting anyone who needs animal rescue to call its hotline at 805-681-4332.
The American Red Cross is actively working on securing evacuation shelter locations. We will let you know as soon as those locations are determined.
Please avoid the area if all possible. If you must be in the area, please watch for emergency apparatus and drive safely.
We will send out any additional information related to evacuations as it becomes available.
