Subject Arrested for Manufacturing Meth

Montgomery County-On June 27,2015 at approximately 4:54 p.m, officers with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police out of Lafayette had received information of possible illegal activity going on at 497 East 300 South (that is just south of Crawfordsville).

Trooper Nathan Hampton along with Deputy Thomen arrived at the residence; they were met by a male subject later identified as Richard S. Francis, 51 who gestured the officers to follow him.  After talking to Francis, they noticed alleged illegal activity appeared to be going on and after a short conversation, were asked to leave.

Trooper Hampton was able to apply for and received a search warrant for the residence with the information obtained from the first encounter.  At approximately 8:05 p.m, Trooper Hampton returned to the residence with a search warrant.  After reading the search warrant to Francis, a search of the residence was conducted.  Several trash bags of meth trash were found along with several items used in the making of meth.  Francis was taken into custody and charged with Manufacturing/Dealing in Methamphetamine, a Level 5 Felony and booked into the Montgomery County Jail.  The location was cleaned up by the Lafayette Meth Suppression Team.  The investigation is ongoing.

Assisting at the scene were Troopers from the Lafayette Post, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office and the Lafayette Post Meth Suppression Team.

Citizens who see or hear of illegal drug or criminal activity can call their nearest law enforcement agency or the nearest Indiana State Police Post.  All information is confidential and you do not need to leave your name.  Help us help you clean up the drug problem.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
