One arrested, one hospitalized after Saturday morning accident on Amarillo Boulevard.
On June 27th, 2015, at about 2:12 AM, an officer saw a silver 2007 Kia Optima driven by Omar Arturo Soto Nevarez, WM, 43, driving eastbound in the 4300 block of E Amarillo Boulevard. There was a 2005 Vento Thunder motorcycle with temporary tags stuck on the bumper of the car, being pushed along in front of it. The officer could see smoke and dust still in the air from the car/motorcycle collision on top of the overpass in the 4100 block of Amarillo Boulevard. The officer sent another officer to the overpass to locate the driver of the motorcycle while stopping the Kia that was leaving the scene. The motorcycle rider, Christopher Keith Cummins, WM, 37 was at the scene on top of the overpass. He told officers that he was driving eastbound in the 4100 block of E Amarillo Boulevard when his vehicle was hit from behind and he was thrown from the motorcycle. Mr. Cummins was transported to a local hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. Mr. Nevarez taken into custody and booked into the Potter County Detention Center for Intoxication Assault. Speed and alcohol are both possible factors in this collision. The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department.
