6/26/15, release: Aggravated Assault, DUI-refusal, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest, Reckless Endangerment, Possession of switchblade

In the early hours of Friday June 26, 2015 at approximately 2:00 am, a Burlington Police Officer was approached by a group of people who reported that male in a black Subaru pointed a firearm at them and threatened them with it. This had followed a verbal altercation about the male repeatedly revving the Subaru’s engine. The victim(s) advised that the suspect and the Subaru were parked on Pearl Street near ACT1.

Based on the description of the vehicle and the plate obtained, it was determined that the suspect was Chris Mesick 03/17/1982. Mesick is known to Burlington Police from a previous violent encounter.

Moments later the Burlington Police located the vehicle which was occupied by Mesick and a female passenger, Heather Newman. A high-risk car stop was initiated. Mesick and his passenger failed to comply and eventually both Mesick and the female passenger were safely taken into custody.

Mesick was found in possession of a loaded magazine for a pistol and one knife was recovered from Mesick’s person. The vehicle was seized and a search warrant for Mesick’s vehicle resulted in a firearm being located. The firearm was a .45 caliber pistol.

Mesick was charged with Aggravated Assault, DUI-refusal, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest, Reckless Endangerment, Possession of switchblade and lodged at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Center in South Burlington, pending an arraignment.

Newman was cited for Impeding Public Officers.

During this incident Pearl Street from Winooski to Elmwood was closed to traffic. There were no other persons injured during this incident.
