QUINCY, Wash. (28JUNE2015) - An Ellensburg man has died after an apparent fall from a 150 foot cliff off Old Vantage Highway near Quincy, Washington. The man has been identified as Hayden Messerman, age 23, of Ellensburg. His body was found about 7:15am this morning.
Hayden Messerman was last seen leaving work Thursday at about 10:30 pm. Family reported him missing to Ellensburg Police Department on Saturday. Ellensburg PD was able to ping Messerman’s cell phone, which led Grant County deputies late Saturday to Hayden’s car parked along Vantage Road about one mile west of Silica Road. At that time, there was no sign of Messerman.
Early the following morning, Deputies and Messerman’s friends returned to the car and discovered Messerman’s body at the bottom of a 150 foot cliff across Vantage Road from where the car was parked.
Firefighters from Grant County fire districts 3 and 5 used climbing gear to recover Messerman’s body around 12:00 p.m.
It is unclear why or when Messerman had traveled to the location. There are no obvious signs of foul play.
An autopsy is scheduled and the incident is under investigation.
