Tanker rollover on Road 4-Northwest; minor injuries for driver, no hazmat leak

Near EPHRATA, Wash. (26JUNE2015) – A Quincy Farm Chemicals truck driver escaped serious injury when the tanker he was driving was involved in a rollover collision Friday afternoon about 10 miles south of Ephrata.

Floyd Holtorf, age 54 of East Wenatchee, was driving a 1995 Freightliner tanker eastbound on Road 4-Northwest east of Road A-Northwest when at about 2:40 p.m. he swerved to avoid a vehicle which was stopped in the road to make a left turn into a driveway. The Freightliner left the road to the south and rolled onto its top in a corn field.

Holthorf suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake.

The 2,400 gallons of liquid fertilizer in the truck’s tank did not leak or spill. Road 4-NW is closed at Road A-NW and Division Road North while the fertilizer is transferred to another tanker truck and the wrecked truck is towed from the scene. The roadway should reopen around 6:00 p.m.

The investigation continues by the Grant County Sheriff’s Motor Traffic Unit and Washington State Patrol’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers.
