Quincy woman injured when struck by light plane attempting take-off from county road
QUINCY, Wash. (26JUNE2015) - A Quincy woman received minor injuries this morning when she was struck by a light plane which was attempting to take off from a Grant County roadway.
About 6:40 a.m., 67-year-old Randall W. Grandpre of Osburn, Idaho, was piloting a homemade Zenith CH701 single engine light plane and attempting to use Road R-Northwest as a runway. During the attempted take-off, the plane’s wing struck arbor vitae along the road, causing the plane to veer into and strike 57-year-old Rebecca J. Gregg of Quincy, who was standing along the road taking pictures of the attempted flight. The plane, which never lifted off the ground, then crashed into the yard of 6141 Road R-Northwest. Grandpre was not injured.
Gregg received non-life threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to Quincy Valley Medical Center. A 13-year-old female passenger on the plane received a minor leg injury and was treated and released at the scene.
Grandpre had decided to use the road as a runway because a field he would have used was muddy.
The investigation continues.
