Narrative:
On 6/23/2015, at 1839 hours, Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputies with the Thousand Oaks Police Department responded to assist the Ventura County Fire Department with a structure fire in a commercial building in the 800 block of Mitchell Road in Newbury Park. Firefighters battling the blaze discovered an indoor marijuana grow and the implements of a Butane Honey Oil (BHO) lab inside the burning structure.

Based on the circumstances, deputies requested additional resources to respond to assist with the investigation. Arson investigators with the Ventura County Fire and Sheriff’s Departments, and detectives with the Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit responded. They evaluated the scene and determined it was the site of a BHO lab. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Lab Response Team was called out to process the scene.

During the initial investigation, detectives were able to quickly identify a possible suspect based on information obtained by patrol deputies and evidence detectives located at the scene.

Jared Sullada, a Moorpark resident, was identified as a possible suspect. Detectives later located Sullada as he arrived at his Moorpark residence with two other subjects. They quickly left the location and were stopped by a patrol deputy on Highway 23 at Janss Road. Detectives questioned Sullada and an additional passenger, Jason Mulhall, regarding the fire on Mitchell Road. Detectives determined Sullada and Mulhall were involved and arrested them.

Detectives conducted a search of Sullada’s residence in Moorpark and Mulhall’s residence in Westlake. Evidence was recovered linking them to the Mitchell Road fire. Sullada and Mulhall were both arrested for Cultivation of Marijuana and Manufacturing Concentrated Cannabis. Additional charges are pending as more information and evidence is evaluated regarding the fire.

Sullada and Mulhall posted bail and they are scheduled to appear in court on 7/8/2015, at 8:15AM.
