Criminal Activity Alert- Twin Brooks Area.

Earlier this morning at approximately 3:30 AM, a Saddle River patrol unit observed an occupied vehicle pulled to the side of Twin Brooks Road. When the Officer approached, this vehicle reversed quickly and attempted to ram the Patrol unit as it fled the area. An additional suspect was observed out of the vehicle on foot and he fled as well. Additional patrol units from neighboring agencies and two K-9 units were deployed during an extensive search of the area. The search was concluded at approximately 8:30 AM with negative results.

It is believed that these actors were in the process of stealing vehicles when our Patrol Officer interrupted them and likely prevented these crimes. All of the recent vehicle thefts could have been avoided. These thefts are facilitated by vehicle owners leaving the key fobs in their vehicles when they are unoccupied. Remove the vehicle keys and key fobs from your vehicles and lock them when they are unoccupied. This will prevent these actors from returning to our town to commit these crimes.

In the past, Patrol Officers have made contact with and arrested some of these actors during their shifts. We strongly advise residents not to confront these individuals.

The following tips may reduce your chances of becoming a victim;
 If you have an alarm system, update it, and use it.
 Second story windows should be alarmed.
 Leave interior and exterior lights on to make your home appear occupied.
 Leave a television or radio on inside your home.
 Please remove jewelry and valuables from the bedrooms and closets.
 Remove safes from the master bedroom and their closets.
 Lock all doors and windows. We find many unlocked doors.
 Lock any unoccupied vehicles and remove the key fobs from them.
 Remove mail and newspapers from your driveway the day they are delivered.
 Secure any ladders on your property.
 Lock any unoccupied vehicles and remove the key fobs from them.
