“Police Blotter” Highlights – Ending June 21, 2015

BATTERY

On Sunday, June 20, 2015 at 8:45pm, UCPD dispatch received a call of an assault with a deadly weapon at a residence located on 7th Street. It was reported that two male victims were standing at the end of their driveway when they got into an argument with a group of their neighbors. The argument turned into a physical altercation when the suspects began punching and kicking the victims. When officers arrived, two suspects were arrested and multiple people went to the hospital with lacerations, bumps and bruises. It was later determined no weapon was used and the suspects were arrested for battery.

STRUCTURE FIRE/FATALITY

On June 18, 2015 at approximately 4:30pm officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of Oregon Street to assist ALCO Fire with a structure fire. Once on scene, officers assisted with evacuating occupants from the complex away and with traffic control. The 4-unit complex sustained major damage and Alameda County Fire personnel located the body of a deceased female inside one of the units. Alameda County Fire personnel believe the fire started in a downstairs unit, however the cause of the fire is still unknown as this time. This case is still under investigation.

COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE NEEDED

As a result of this devastating fire, three families have been displaced and have lost most of their belongings. Each has been staying in temporary arrangements and are in need of the community’s assistance to help them start over. The Red Cross and many groups in Union City have banded together to assist them through this difficult time and have provided assistance in various ways. How can you help?

Centro De Servicios in Union City has established a fund to help the families get through these tough times. A bank account has been set up to collect donations that will be distributed to all three families.

UNATTENDED DEATHS

On June 20th, at approximately 8:30pm officers were dispatched to an area known as a homeless encampment located on Union City Blvd for a report of a dead body. ALCO Fire was on scene and had begun rescue attempts but the male was later pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as a 45-year-old, white, male transient from Union City. There were no signs of foul play and the exact cause of death is unknown at this time.

On June 19th at about 7:00pm officers were dispatched to Union Square to conduct a welfare check on a male adult who had not been seen or heard from since the day prior. Upon arrival, the officers met with the reporting person, who advised officers that she had not seen her adult son since the previous day. Officers discovered the male was deceased. There did not appear to be any signs of foul play.

WEEK IN REVIEW

VANDALISM

On Monday, June 15th at around 5:00pm an incident of vandalism occurred at two homes located on Regents Blvd. Three unknown suspects approached the two homes and threw eggs, defacing the property. The suspects fled in a dark, four door unknown make vehicle, westbound on Regents Blvd. Police are looking into additional evidence that may help identify the suspects.

REPORT OF CRIMINAL THREATS

On June 16th, 2015 at approximately 2:00pm, officers responded to Chapel of the Chimes located on Mission Blvd for a criminal threats investigation. It seems a former, disgruntled employee called and left a voice message for a current employee of what first appeared to be criminal threats, however after further police investigation it was determined that no specific or direct threat was made towards the victim and the threats were determined unfounded.

From Monday June 15th through Sunday, June 21st there were three reported residential burglaries:
• Crest Lane - entry point was side garage door kick, which was kicked in.
• Dowe Ave - entry point was from a window.
• Alvarado Bl - entry point was a window.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES

From Monday June 15th through Sunday, June 21st there were two report commercial thefts:
• Eigenbrodt Way
• Central Ave


AUTO BURGLARIES AND VEHICLE THEFTS

VEHICLE THEFTS

From Monday June 15th through Sunday, June 21st there were three reported vehicle thefts:
• In & Out Burger- entry was a window smash
• In & Out Burger- entry was a window smash
• Buffalo Wild Wings- entry was a window smash

STOLEN VEHICLES

From Monday, June 15th through Sunday, June 21st there were eight reported stolen vehicles. At the time of this report, three of those vehicles have been recovered.
