On June 22^nd, 2015 at about 9:10 am Kern County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the El Don Motel, 800 S. Union Ave. in southeast Bakersfield, for a report of a baby unresponsive and not breathing.

When deputies arrived fire department personnel had already arrived and were treating the baby. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives responded and initiated an investigation into the child’s death. The baby, a six month old boy, had been living at the motel with his mother and two young siblings. Detectives spoke to the mother, who was cooperative. There did not appear to be any obvious cause of death.

The Coroner’s Office took custody of the child’s body and will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death. The investigation is ongoing.
