Attendance both days is required for a course completion certificate.
A good intro is available on the FEMA website titled "IS-317, "an Intro to CERT", along with GS-317 literature: https://www.fema.gov/community-emergency-response-teams/training-materials
Training is conducted by FEMA certified staff and First Responders using a nationally recognized curriculum. This course gives students training in disaster psychology, 1st aid, triage, search and rescue, fire suppression, hazard recognition, disaster types and more! The course completion certificate is recognized in every state and municipality.
This course is also FUN... so share this with your friends, civic group, HOA, Church, etc
We have a Capstone Drill at the end of the course where students work together as a team during a simulated disaster scene, using the hands-on skills learned. The drill is a continuation of the learning process and instructors are imbedded with the teams to provide mentoring.
Be sure to submit your application ASAP to reserve your seating! Must be 18 or older, OR 16 years of age WITH parental PARTICIPATION.
The course is open to adjacent cities, Sachse residents will have first priority as the class fills.
Active participation with a CERT group is NOT a requirement upon completion, but MANY rewarding opportunities to give back to your community are available once you are trained.
