Investigators with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office continue to piece together the details of a shooting early Wednesday morning that left a man dead.
Deputies responded to a call of a welfare check in Deer Park Gardens in Nebo at approximately 1 a.m. Wednesday. While en route, they came upon a man lying partially in the roadway at the intersection of Pinnacle Church Road and Pinnacle Heights Drive.
It appeared that the victim, identified as 39-year-old Christopher Wayne English, of Pinnacle Heights in Nebo, had sustained a gunshot wound to his torso.
Deputies determined that he was still alive and began rendering aid until paramedics arrived. Paramedics continued efforts to save English, but he died at the scene.
No arrests have been made, but an investigation is ongoing. Detectives are following up on leads and interviewing potential witnesses.
