Overnight Closure of Foothill Expressway at Loyola Bridge on Monday, June 22
All lanes of Foothill Expressway traffic will be detoured at Loyola Bridge starting Monday, June 22, 2015 at 9:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2015. This closure is necessary due to the County of Santa Clara’s Loyola Bridge Widening Project.
Detour Information
North bound traffic: Exit at Fremont Avenue, pass the Loyola Drive, enter expressway
South bound traffic: Exit Loyola Drive, pass Loyola Drive, enter expressway
Message signs are being used to advise motorists of the coming work, and to provide any necessary updates.
Bridge contractor Granite Construction will be using the closure to transition work zone setups from the Stage 1 work in the expressway median to Stage 2 work. The Stage 2 work will prepare the bridge support structures along the sides of the expressway. Closure of the expressway during the nighttime relocation of the concrete barrier rails used for traffic control will ensure worksite and driver safety.
During Stage 2, Foothill Expressway traffic will be allowed in the inside or leftmost lanes, and the outside lanes will be closed in both directions.
Despite slightly reduced width on the bridge deck due to placement of concrete construction railing used to create the working area, two-way eastwest traffic will continue to be maintained across the Loyola Bridge. “Share the Road” signage will reinforce the need for special driver caution in this area.
In future months, there will be at least two more Expressway closures for girder placements, one for each side of the bridge.
