Full Notification

We have taken a couple of reports from local businesses that reported receiving telephone calls from someone claiming to be from The Illuminating Company advising them that they were delinquent on their bill and threatened immediate termination of service. The caller gave instructions to the businesses to put the payment on a Reloadit card. Each business purchased the cards and provided the caller with the numbers. When the victims realized that it was a scam they found that the money had been removed from the cards.

No legitimate business or agency will ask for payment on a Green Dot, Reloadit, or any cash card of that type. If you receive a call like this, please do not provide the caller with any information and report the call. If you are suspicious about the call, hang up and contact the business or agency yourself to verify the legitimacy of the call.
