On Sunday, June 14, 2015, at approximately 4:00 p.m., a local recreational diver came upon a human body at the bottom of the ocean floor off San Clemente Island, Los Angeles County.

The diver contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) Avalon Sheriff’s Station and the United States Coast Guard regarding the body found 100 feet below the surface.  Divers of the LASD Special Enforcement Bureau, Emergency Services Detail responded that evening and conducted a dive operation in search of the body.  Search efforts, however, were later suspended due to a lack of visibility.

The search effort resumed the following morning, Monday, June 15, 2015, where LASD divers successfully located and recovered the human body of a male at approximately 10:25 a.m.

The cause of death will be determined by personnel of the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner, who responded to the scene and took possession of the body.
