Toll Road Post Trooper Receives Safe Driving Award

Indiana State Police Master Trooper Steve Fulk was recently presented a safe driving award for 1,700,000 accident free miles.

Officers are recognized for safe driving miles starting at 50,000 miles and can lose safe driving miles if they are involved in an accident.  Faulk has never been involved in a crash that was his fault.

Fulk graduated from the state police academy in December 1987 and has been averaging more than 61,000 miles a year in his state police car for the past 27 years.  On average, most troopers drive 35,000 miles a year.

Fulk started his career working out of the Toll Road Post and has remained there the entire time.  He was first assigned to patrol duties in St. Joseph and Elkhart Counties.  In 2008 Fulk was selected to join the High Performance Vehicle Unit and now works the entire stretch of Toll Road concentrating on problem traffic areas.

In 2011 Fulk earned the Trooper of the District Award.   This award is given annually to a trooper at each district that personifies integrity, professionalism, and a well rounded work ethic.  In addition, Faulk was a Field Training Officer for the department for 22 years.

Fulk commented that he couldn’t remember what his first police car was but he did know that he was on car number twelve.  Fulk currently resides in Porter County.
