UCPD Police Blotter – Week Ending June 7, 2015
“Police Blotter” Highlights – Ending June 7, 2015
ROBBERY
On Monday, June 3rd, around 6 p.m., Ofc. Willson and Ofc. Moffitt responded to Safeway on reports that a customer was being assaulted and held down by others. Officers ultimately determined that a robbery had taken place. The suspect took the wallet from a victim’s pocket. The elderly victim briefly struggled with the suspect, who fled. Two “good Samaritan” bystanders saw what occurred and also confronted the suspect, ultimately tackling him to the ground and keeping him there until police arrived. The suspect eventually surrendered the stolen wallet. Theodore Levy, a 48-year-old male out of Oakland, was arrested for robbery and three outstanding felony warrants.
HOME INVASION ROBBERY – CASE UPDATE
On Monday, May 25th, around 9 p.m., officers responded to the 32400 block of Deborah Dr. for the report of an assault with a deadly weapon. It was determined that the incident was actually a home invasion robbery. Two suspects pointed a pistol at the victim and demanded he lead them through the house for cash, jewelry and cameras. Two firearms were also stolen. A neighbor observed the suspects leave the area in a newer model, white Mercedes.
Several days later, Alameda County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) deputies pursued a white Mercedes that left the scene of a home invasion robbery in Castro Valley. The suspects evaded police, but three of them were captured and arrested. It is believed two of them were responsible for the robbery in Union City. Items located inside of the Mercedes were positively identified as stolen property from both the Castro Valley and Union City home invasion robberies. Oakland residents Jamarco Jackson, 22, Kenneth Watkins, 20, and Mercedes Dunlap, 25, were arrested.
This past weekend, UCPD detectives assisted Oakland PD in the execution of search warrants at the suspects’ residences, resulting in the recovery of the two stolen firearms.
