Evansville Man Arrested after Brief Chase on Lloyd Expressway

Evansville Man Arrested after Brief Chase on Lloyd Expressway

Vanderburgh County – At approximately 11:49 last night, Trooper Lucas Zeien was monitoring traffic in the construction zone on the Lloyd Expressway at US 41 when he noticed a 1997 Honda Accord traveling east at a high rate of speed.  The vehicle was clocked by radar at 70 in a 40 mph zone.  Zeien attempted to stop the vehicle near Boeke Road, but the driver accelerated and reached speeds in excess of 100 mph near Green River Road.  The driver of the Honda slowed down near Burkhardt Road, but disregarded the stop light.  After driving through the intersection the driver slowed down to approximately 45 mph and continued east into Warrick County.  Zeien noticed a large amount of smoke and fluid coming from the Honda Accord before the driver stopped abruptly just east of Frame Road.  The driver, Ronnie Sanders, 32, of Evansville, exited the vehicle and surrendered.  Troopers detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on Sanders. Troopers also found a large opened bottle of vodka inside the vehicle. Sanders was arrested and taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail where he is currently being held without bond.
