On Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at approximately 9:14 p.m., Officers responded to the 500 block of I Street for the report of shots fired. Witnesses told police a Hispanic male adult, described as having tattoos on his hands and face, fired several shots at the victim. The suspect later approached a bystander, pointed a firearm at the man and made reference to a criminal street gang before fleeing in a silver SUV, unknown make or model.

During the course of the investigation, Detective Sean Bayard identified Reyes James Carrillo, 20, of Los Banos as the shooting suspect.

On June 2, 2015, Detectives served search warrants at residences in the 1000 block of D Street and 700 block of Juniper Court. When the Detectives arrived at the D Street residence, Carrillo fled from the officers on foot but was quickly apprehended by fleet-footed Sergeant Jesse Ceja.

Detectives found methamphetamine and other items commonly used to package and distribute methamphetamine inside the D Street residence.

Cecilia Duran, 30, and Cipriano Pena, 34, both of Los Banos, were arrested for drug charges and child endangerment. Both Duran and Pena are out of custody on bail. Carrillo was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, gang member in possession of a firearm, conspiracy, and other weapons related charges. Carrillo remains in custody at the Merced Sheriff’s Main Jail in lieu of $265,000 bail.
