Industrial Business Explosion - Poway

Today (June 10), deputies from the Poway Sheriff's Station responded to a report of an explosion just before 1:00 p.m. at Quantum Energy Storage located in the 13000 block of Gregg Street.

Five people were injured in the explosion. None of the injuries are considered life-threatening. Four of those injured were taken to local medical facilities for treatment.

At this time, the explosion is being treated as an industrial accident. Out of an abundance of caution, the Sheriff's Bomb/Arson Unit was called in to determine the cause of the explosion. The investigation is continuing.

Investigators with the Poway Sheriff's Station, Sheriff's Bomb/Arson, Poway Fire Department, ATF, FBI and Cal/OSHA are working together on this incident. The Sheriff's ASTREA helicopter unit is also providing aerial support.

The County's HAZMAT team is also on-site. No hazardous materials were released during the explosion.

The industrial complex where the explosion took place has been evacuated. No one is being allowed back inside until further notice.
