Suspect Arrested After Vehicle Pursuit and Hit and Run
On June 10th, 2015 detectives with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office Rural Crime Investigation Unit received information that a subject, later identified as 34 year old Daniel Holder, was attempting to sell a stolen trailer and fertilizer tank on a website that offers items for sale. During the investigation detectives were able to make contact with Holder and agreed to meet him at a restaurant in the 8600 block of Golden State Hwy. in Bakersfield to purchase the trailer and tank.
Detectives began to surveil the restaurant and at about 12:30 pm Holder arrived in a vehicle towing the trailer and tank. When he arrived there was an adult female, later identified as 25 year old Samantha Saenz, and two children, a two year old boy and five year old boy, in the vehicle with him. Holder exited the vehicle and detectives approached him and identified themselves. Holder then re-entered the vehicle and fled in the vehicle towing the trailer and tank.
Detectives pursued Holder to the area of Coffee Rd. and Hageman Rd. As Holder entered the intersection westbound he collided with a vehicle, and then continued west on Hageman Rd. At that point detectives discontinued their pursuit due to concern for the safety of motorists in the area.
Holder continued west on Hageman Rd. and as he entered the intersection with Calloway Dr. he collided with two vehicles, one of which was a US Postal Service delivery truck. Holder then exited the vehicle and fled on foot south through a shopping center and into a residential area.
Deputies and assisting officers from the Bakersfield Police Department arrived and began pursuing Holder on foot. At one point Holder forced entry into a home in the 4000 block of Quicksilver Dr. and was confronted by residents of the home. Holder then fled that home into the backyard of a home next door. Deputies and BPD officers located him in the backyard of that residence where he was taken into custody with the assistance of a K-9. Holder sustained minor injuries while being taken into custody.
Holder was arrested for auto theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, conspiracy, two counts of felony child endangerment, two counts of felony hit and run, and several outstanding warrants. Saenz was arrested for auto theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, conspiracy, and two counts of felony child endangerment. Detectives were able to determine that Saenz was with Holder when he stole the trailer and tank prior to meeting the detectives.
The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating both of the traffic collisions. None of the parties involved in either of the traffic collisions was seriously injured.
Holder was transported to KMC for treatment of his injuries. He will be booked into the Kern County Jail Central Receiving Facility upon his release. Saenz was booked into the Central Receiving Facility. Both the two year old and four year old were taken into protective custody.
