Join us for the 32nd Annual National Night Out Crime and Drug Prevention Event on August 4

On Tuesday, August 4, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., neighbors throughout Los Altos are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the “32nd Annual National Night Out” anti-crime and drug prevention event.

National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Los Altos Police Department, involves over 16,124 communities in all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. Last year, approximately one million people participated in National Night Out, which is supported in part by the US Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance.

National Night Out is designed to:

- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
- Generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and community-police relations
- Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back

National Night Out is an extraordinary way to build neighborhood unity and strengthen police-community partnerships. On August 4th, we are inviting neighborhoods to join forces with us to “Give Crime & Drugs a Going Away Party!”

Register Your Neighborhood Event by July 22, 2015

The Los Altos Police Department encourages Los Altos residents to join this fun event. Neighbors are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend an evening out with their neighbors and the men and women of the Los Altos Police Department.

Be sure to register your neighborhood event with the Police department so we can make plans to stop by. Download the registration application (attached) and be sure to return it by Wednesday, July 22, 2015.

Creativity and individuality are what makes National Night Out fun for your family and all your neighbors! There are many things you can do to celebrate. Here are some great ideas that we have seen different neighborhoods do in the past:

- Ice cream social
- Potluck
- BBQ
- Pie baking contest
- Children’s activities
- Themed party
