Kern County Sheriff’s Office Announces New Nixle Alert System

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office has recently partnered with Nixle to implement a new Community Notification System that can be utilized to alert Kern County residents in real-time to localized emergency situations and relevant community advisories.

Nixle, founded in 2009, provides a mass communications hub built exclusively for government agencies to provide secure, reliable, and relevant information to residents in real-time. Today, over 7,200 agencies throughout the United States rely on Nixle for community notifications and emergency communications. Nixle’s exclusive partnerships with NLETS, Google, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, allows local law enforcement agencies nationwide to send immediate alerts and advisories.

There are several easy ways for Kern County residents to sign up for Nixle:

1.Text your zip code to 888777 from your mobile phone

2.Text KERNSHERIFF (one word) to 888777 from your mobile phone

3.Go to www.nixle.com to sign up

Once registered, residents will receive a confirmation text to their mobile device. All alerts will be targeted geographically, allowing residents to receive localized, relevant alerts from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a press conference today, June 8, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Sheriff’s Office Headquarters facility, 1350 Norris Rd. in Bakersfield.
