Fatigued Semi Driver Rolls Semi
Gary/Lake County-A fatigued semi driver who fell asleep rolled his semi tractor this morning on the ramp to Cline Avenue.
Preliminary investigation by Indiana State Police Trooper Carson House revealed at approximately 4:15 a.m., this Monday, June 08, 2015, morning a 1998 Freightliner tractor bob-tail (no trailer) was on the exit ramp from I-80 to Cline north bound ramp when the driver fell asleep as he drove around the curve.
The tractor owned by Mirmeg Cartage Incorporated out of Chicago, Illinois, and driven by James E. Leslie, 29 of Gary, left the roadway and rolled over into the ditch.
Leslie was cited for Unsafe Lane Movement and No Seat Belt. Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division Inspector Wanda Clay also cited Leslie for Fatigued Driving and Fuel Tax Violation.
Leslie had minor injuries and refused medical treatment.
The tractor was towed from the scene by Waffco Towing.
The ramp was reopened at approximately 6:23 a.m.
