Illinois Man Injured Crashing his Motorcycle
Chesterton/Porter County-An Illinois man was injured, yesterday, Sunday, June 7, 2015, evening when his motorcycle struck the rear of a semi trailer.
Preliminary investigation by Indiana State Police Trooper John Holmen revealed that at approximately 5:17 p.m., yesterday, a 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by Robert Szubert, 47 of Addison, Illinois, was merging onto I-94 west bound from the SR 49 north bound ramp attempting to go into the right lane. As Szubert was merging the motorcycle hit the trailer of a 2011 Freightliner, owned by Martin Transportation Systems Incorporated, hauling car parts from Livonia, Michigan to Chicago, Illinois. The semi was driven by Brian Morris, 30 of Jackson, Michigan.
Szubert (who was wearing a helmet) after hitting the trailer was thrown from the motorcycle and came to rest in the roadway. Szubert was taken to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Chesterton with a broken left leg.
Morris was not injured and no load was loss from his trailer.
The right lane and ramp were closed for approximately 45 minutes for clean-up, removal of the motorcycle, and investigation of the crash.
