ARREST FOR COMMERCIAL BURGLARY AND ATTEMPTED RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY.

WHAT: ARREST FOR COMMERCIAL BURGLARY AND ATTEMPTED RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

WHERE: 265 South St / 2221 King St.

WHEN: June 7, 2015

DEPARTMENT CONTACT: Sgt. K. Hixenbaugh 805-781-7317

On Sunday morning at about 7:35, San Luis Obispo Police Officers responded to a burglar alarm at San Luis Print and Copy located at 265 South St. Upon arrival, officers discovered a burglary had just occurred with a loss of cash but the suspect was gone.

At about 8:30, a resident in the apartment complex at 2221 King St. (approx. 2 blocks away from 265 South St.) called 911 to report an attempted burglary at his apartment. The victim reported that someone had rung his door bell but he decided not to answer the door. Moments later, he heard someone trying to pry one of his windows open. The victim confronted the suspect who fled on foot.

Responding police officers located a suspect matching the description given by the victim in the apartment complex across the street at 2250 King St. The victim was able to positively identify the suspect and the suspect was in possession of the tool likely used to try to pry the window open. Additionally, officers located the exact amount of cash missing from the commercial burglary at 265 South St. A witness who saw the suspect fleeing from the 265 South St. burglary stated the suspect that was detained for the King St. attempted burglary was likely the same person.

28 year old STEVEN MICHAEL WILLIAMS was placed under arrest for the attempted residential burglary and commercial burglary. Williams is a resident of Arroyo Grande but has recently become homeless and has been staying in San Luis Obispo. He was booked into County Jail with bail set at $75,000.

If anyone has experienced similar circumstances recently, they are encouraged to report it to the San Luis Obispo Police Department at (805) 781-7317.
