Bloomington - Murder Investigation - Mother arrested for the death of her 8 month old child

LOCATION: 10100 block of Linden Avenue, Bloomington
VICTIM: 8 Month old Male Juvenile
SUSPECT: Maria Torres, age 31 a resident of Bloomington
SUMMARY:
On Thursday, June 4, 2015, at about 2:53 p.m., deputies from the Fontana Sheriff’s Station were summoned to a business on Linden Avenue regarding possible human remains found in a storage shed. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the remains appeared to be consistent with those of a small child. As a result, Homicide investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to conduct an investigation. During the course of the investigation, detectives determined the remains where those of an eight month-old male child. They determined Maria Torres was the mother of the child. Detectives learned the child was likely murdered more than one (1) year prior to the remains being located. It was discovered Torres had been hiding the child’s remains from family and friends during that time. Torres is also being investigated for fraudulently obtaining money from a local church and community members, by creating a false belief that such funds would be utilized for burial fees related to the death of the child.
On Saturday, June 6, 2015, Maria Torres was arrested for PC 187(a) Murder and was booked at West Valley Detention Center, where she is being held without bail.
Due to an ongoing investigation, the cause of death will not be released at this time.
