Police Chief Introduces New Police Trainees and Code Enforcement Officer

Chief of Police Gary Brizzee welcomed new Code Enforcement Officer, Brittany Rogers and Police Officer Trainees, Stephen Frates, Brian Butler, Omar Mondragon, and Anthony Veloz to the Department during a presentation to the City Council Wednesday evening.

Code Enforcement Officer Rogers will be assigned to the community preservation component of the Code Enforcement division; her primary responsibilities will be dealing with unsafe, unhealthy, and unsightly conditions within the community. Rogers graduated from Los Banos High School in 2006. She started as a receptionist with the Department and worked her way up to Dispatcher, where she has been working for the past year.

Our four Police Officer Trainees start their formal law enforcement training at the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Justice Training Center, Tuesday, June 9, 2015. These four men will endure 26 weeks of rigorous training. The recruits will be tested on various topics including laws of arrest, firearms, defensive tactics, physical fitness and emergency vehicle operations.

“The academy will push our recruits to their mental and physical limitations, but we are confident they are all prepared and up to the challenge. They will return to the Department as trained law enforcement professionals, ready for any challenge thrown their way.”

- Jason Hedden, Police Commander

Stephen Frates has served as a Community Services Officer (CSOs) working in the Department’s jail facility for the last 8 years. Both Brian Butler and Omar Mondragon have also worked in the jail facility as CSOs for about a year’s time, and Anthony Veloz was a police explorer scout with the Department before aging out of the program a couple years ago. These trainees know the Police Department inside and out; there prior law enforcement experience will be very helpful as they transition into the role of Police Officer Trainee.
