Lake in the Hills Police Announce Enforcement Results from the Memorial Day Holiday

Lake in the Hills, Il – Lake in the Hills Police today announced its late-night enforcement results for the 2015 Memorial Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Impaired Driving Crackdown. The intensified enforcement effort against the overwhelming number of late-night impaired drivers and safety belt violators underscores the disproportionate number of traffic deaths occurring during late-night hours.

Thirty four vehicles were stopped for violations if the Illinois Vehicle Code in the forty six hours Officers worked. Two drivers were arrested for operation of a motor vehicle while intoxicated. One driver was arrested for speeding 35 miles per hour or more and another driver was arrested for being in possession of a controlled substance.

According to data from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the midnight to 3 a.m. timeframe is the deadliest time on Illinois roadways. Not coincidentally, the data also shows this time of day has the highest percentage of alcohol involvement and the lowest safety belt usage rate.

“Alcohol not only dangerously impairs your driving skills, it also impairs your judgment. If you had a few drinks and feel ‘buzzed,’ remember Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving,” Said Sergeant Eric Decker, Supervisor of the Lake in the Hills Police Traffic Unit

Funding for the enforcement of impaired motorists is done in part with a grant awarded to the Lake in the Hills Police by the Illinois Department of Transportations STEP grant.
