Drugs, Firearm Conficated From Speeding Vehicle On I-65 In Columbus

Columbus – Drugs, paraphernalia and a loaded firearm resulted in the arrest of four occupants of a speeding vehicle along I-65 in Columbus.

On June 04, 2015 around 11:00 PM, Indiana State Police Trooper Korry Clark stopped a silver Chrysler Concord north on I-65 within the 67mm after clocking it at 88 mph in a posted 70 mph zone. When Trooper Clark made contact with the driver, Elliot Harmon 35 of Indianapolis, he detected an odor of marijuana. Trooper Clark called for assistance from Trooper Jacob Tolle and Columbus Police Officer Trey Schultz. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in drugs (cocaine), paraphernalia and a loaded handgun being confiscated and the arrest of the driver and the three occupants. All subjects were transported to Bartholomew County jail where they were incarcerated.

Harmon was charged with one count of Driving While Suspended-Prior, a Class A Misdemeanor, Visiting a Common Nuisance, a Class A Misdemeanor and Exceeding Posted Speed limit 88/70 mph zone.

Tequila Brown 33, of Indianapolis was charged with one count each of Visiting a Common Nuisance and Possession of Paraphernalia, each a Class A Misdemeanor.

Chantell Stepp 35 (owner of vehicle), of Indianapolis was charged with one count each of Possession of Cocaine, a Level 6 Felony, Possession of Paraphernalia and Visiting a Common Nuisance, each a Class A Misdemeanor.

Louis Bell 41, of Indianapolis was charged with one count each of Possession of a Handgun by a serious violent felon, a Level 4 Felony, Possession of a Handgun without a permit, a Class B Misdemeanor and Visiting a Common Nuisance, a Class A Misdemeanor.

Later on (during same shift) Friday morning June 5, 2015 around 04:22 AM, Trooper Clark stopped a moped on SR 7 near CR 450 E for no license plate. Further investigation determined that the driver, Elonzo Simmons 21, of Seymour was wanted for Robbery out of Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Simmons was also found to be in possession of Cocaine and Marijuana. Simmons was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County jail. He is facing the warrant along with one count each of Possession of Cocaine, a Level 6 Felony, Possession of Marijuana, a Class B Misdemeanor and cited for No Endorsement of ID to operate a moped.
