“Police Blotter” Highlights – Ending May 31, 2015

ROBBERY
On Monday, May 25th, Ofc. Martin responded to a late-reported robbery at a store in Union Landing. About 8 p.m., two subjects cut the security cords for two iPhones and ran toward the front door. In the process of fleeing, they dropped one of the phones. When a store manager followed them into the parking lot, the female suspect pointed a pink Taser at him. The first suspect was described as a 25-year-old black male, about 5’10” and 190 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes. The second suspect was described as a 25-year-old black female, 5’4” and 130 lbs., with long black hair. They left in an older model, sky blue Ford Taurus.

WEEK IN REVIEW

Burglary Tools:
On Thursday, May 28th, around 2:45 p.m., Ofc. DeJong conducted a traffic stop and located two shaved keys on the driver. Shaved keys are commonly used to steal older model vehicles. A 22-year-old male and Union City resident was arrested.

Brandishing a Knife:
On Saturday, May 30th, around 4 p.m., Ofc. Parodi responded to a brandishing call in the 31700 block of Alvarado Bl. The apartment manager noticed two suspects sleeping in a vacant apartment. When he entered the apartment, one of the suspects brandished a knife, and both suspects fled on foot. The knife-brandishing suspect is known to police as a local transient.

Vehicle Theft Arrest:
On Sunday, May 31st, around 12:45 a.m., Ofc. Jensen conducted a records check of a vehicle and determined it was stolen out of Oakland. He and Ofc. Olson conducted a vehicle stop and arrested Marcos Echeverria, a 26-year-old Oakland resident, for vehicle theft.

BURGLARIES AND CAR THEFTS

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, May 25th through Sunday, May 31st, there were no reported residential burglaries.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, May 25th through Sunday, May 31st, there were two reported commercial burglaries:
• 34500 block of Alvarado-Niles Rd.: Occurred on Friday, May 29th, around 4:45 a.m. The glass door was smashed, and the loss included cash from the register. The suspect was captured on surveillance video but could only be described as a tall, slender male.
• 1700 block of Decoto Rd.: Occurred on Sunday, May 31st, around 3 a.m. A man stole a worker’s jacket, then used the car keys in the jacket pocket to steal a phone and work keys from the victim’s work van. A couple hours later, he returned to the business and gave the victim back all the stolen property. Robert Freeman, a 44-year-old male out of Oakland, was arrested.

AUTO BURGLARIES AND VEHICLE THEFTS
From Monday, May 25th through Sunday, May 31st, there was one reported auto burglary. It was committed via a window smash to an SUV, and laptops were taken from the rear cargo area. The victim stated that after parking, he had moved the laptops from a passenger seat to the cargo area.
Safety Tip: As a reminder, never leave items of value inside your vehicle! If you move any items into your vehicle’s trunk or cargo area, do so *before* arriving at your destination, not after.

From Monday, May 25th through Sunday, May 31st, there were six reported vehicle thefts. As of the time of this report, three of the vehicles have been recovered.
