EPHRATA, Wash. (04JUNE2015) – Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones today announced his office has received notice of a Federal grant available through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program. Although the $10,393 of grant funds can be used in a number of different categories, the Sheriff’s Office has decided to pursue the following purchase:

• Class “C” uniforms to assist with the transition into the new uniforms as currently in progress at the Sheriff’s Office.

These units will replace the uniform as worn by Sheriff’s Office personnel for several decades. The previous British green uniforms are getting very hard to come by and delays as long as 6 to 9 months for delivery of a single uniform was not conducive to the orderly operation and consistency in appearance of our personnel.

Left with the option of putting an inventory worth several thousand dollars of uniforms on the shelf at one time was cost prohibitive in the long run. Instead we have chosen to transition to a new uniform that is worn by Sheriff’s Offices around the country and is produced in large quantities making them readily available. These new uniforms will consist of a Khaki colored shirt and green pants.

Additional opportunities to comment on this grant will be provided for as the Sheriff’s Office presents a proposed budget extension for our FY2015 budget once all of the background paperwork is finalized in the fall of 2015.
