Chad James Promoted to North Zone Training Sergeant for ISP

Marshall County - The Indiana State Police recently announced the promotion of Chad James to the rank of sergeant to serve as the North Zone Training Coordinator for the Indiana State Police.  James will coordinate and supervise all state police training for the northern half of the state to include the Bremen, Toll Road, Lowell, Ft. Wayne, Peru, and Lafayette Posts.  Sergeant James earned this promotion through written testing and a competitive interview process.

James, originally from Portland Indiana, graduated from Peru High School.  He attended college at Ball State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and history.

James is a 15-year veteran of the department and started his career at the Bremen Post in 1999 after graduating from the Indiana State Police Academy.  James worked road patrol duties in Kosciusko County until 2009 when he moved to a new position within the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division.   As a CVED compliance specialist James was responsible for investigating and auditing unsafe commercial carries within the state of Indiana.

During his tenure with the department James has been a member of the Tactical Intervention Platoon (TIP) for seven years, and a Field Training Officer (FTO) for newly hired recruits since 2004.

James is also an Emergency Vehicle Operation instructor (EVO) for the department teaching recruits at the academy and training personnel in the field.  Sergeant James also served as the coordinator for the Bremen Post Marijuana Eradication team for four years.

James spends his free time coaching youth baseball and is also a member of the Winona Lake Park Board and the Knights of Columbus.

James resides in Winona Lake with his wife Heather and their three children Olivia, Ayrton, and Brady.
