HCSO: Statement on Behalf of Sheriff Ron Hickman 
From Sheriff Ron Hickman:
"I concur with the Commissioners Court decision to approve the settlement offer agreed upon by the County Attorney’s Office and Mr. Goodwin’s legal representatives.
"My administration is dedicated to rectifying the wrongs done to Mr. Goodwin, and changing the culture of the Sheriff’s Office to ensure these instances never occur in the future.
"Breakdowns in leadership in the previous administration led to an atmosphere of non-confrontational deference. From the top down, failures to accept a leadership responsibility resulted in the appalling and unacceptable treatment of Mr. Goodwin.
"I’m grateful that our County’s leadership has recognized this failure, and responded in kind today. I’m especially appreciative of the County Attorney’s Office for their work on this agreement.
"I hope to meet with Mrs. Lambert, to share my commitment to improving the County Jail, and our mutual mission to improve the culture and conditions therein."
