Police Are Asking Anyone Who May Have Seen Royce Vaughn on the Evening of May 29, 2015 to Contact Them

Oakland, CA — The Oakland Police Department Criminal Investigations Division (CID) requests assistance from the media and the community regarding an auto-pedestrian collision that occurred on Friday, May 29, 2015 just after 11:00 PM in the 800 block of 28th Street in Oakland.

Investigators have released this photo of victim Royce Vaughn, 47, of Oakland. They believe that prior to his death, Vaughn was a patron of a local business establishment such as a bar or restaurant, and are asking anyone who may have seen him that night to contact CID at 510-238-7950. Any information provided may help clarify what took place that night.

Vaughn is described a male Caucasian, 47 years old, 6’4”, 220 pounds, with brown eyes and dark curly hair. He was wearing a blue and white plaid shirt and gray jeans. The attached photo shows Vaughn at an earlier date; more recently, his hair was worn long and curly on top and shaved short on the sides, with some gray. He is described outgoing and could be loud on occasion.

Police say the vehicle involved is described as a 2013 Toyota SUV, white in color, model FJ Cruiser. The attached photo shows a tan vehicle of the same make and model.

BACKGROUND: On Friday, May 29, 2015, just after 11:00 PM, while in the 800 block of 28th Street, Vaughn was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. When OPD officers arrived on scene, they found him on the street, unresponsive. Medical personnel pronounced him deceased.
