On Saturday May 30, 2015, the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement, and the North Carolina Highway Patrol were conducting a license check point on Old Caroleen Rd.
Rutherford County Sheriff's deputy, Sgt. Stephen Ellis, noticed an open beer between the feet of the back seat passenger as the vehicle was pulling away from the check point.
Ptl. Andrew Weathers and Trooper Kirk Hensley initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle.
During the vehicle stop Trooper Hensley and Ptl. Weathers located 635 grams of marijuana, 2.7 grams of cocaine, a magazine to a handgun, and $190 in US currency
As the investigation continued, it was discovered that a handgun was thrown out of the vehicle just prior to the stop.
Ptl. Ben King with the Sheriff’s Office located the handgun beside a fence just off the roadway.
The handgun was a Ruger LCP .380 caliber which had been reported stolen to Shelby Police Department.
Ptl. Weathers charged the three occupants in the vehicle as follows:
Bryant Marque Galloway of Galloway Ln. Clio, South Carolina was charged with Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Marijuana, Felony Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana Drug Paraphernalia, and Maintaining a Vehicle to Sell/Deliver a Controlled Substance. Mr. Galloway received a $40,000 secured bond.
Robert Mandrell Johnson of Blacksburg Rd. Shelby, North Carolina was charged with Possession of a Stolen Gun, Possession of a Firearm by Felon, Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Marijuana, Felony Possession of Marijuana, Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana Drug Paraphernalia, and Open Container.
Mr. Johnson received a $50,000 secured bond.
Yuyaki Dell Young of Mayse Rd. Forest City, North Carolina was charged with Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Marijuana, Felony Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Cocaine, and Possession of Marijuana Drug Paraphernalia
Mr. Young received a $30,000 secured bond.
