PRESS RELEASE
Valdez, AK – Blasting operations will commence at the Valdez New Harbor construction site Friday as part of the Phase One Uplands development project.
Blasting will occur daily from May 29th through October 1st between the hours of 7:00am and 11:00pm. Exact blast times will be scheduled to minimize impact to pedestrian and vessel traffic, as well as local business operations and community events.
The area will be closed and flagged during active blasting operations. Personnel aboard aircraft and vessels will actively monitor the area around the site and have the authority to stop operations for safety or security concerns.
While blasting is in progress, please avoid unnecessary traffic around the construction site, adhere to all instructions from flagging personnel, and vacate the immediate area upon hearing the following audible signals:
Warning Signal: One minute series of long horn or siren blasts five minutes prior to the blast signal
Blast Signal: A series of short horn or siren blasts one minute prior to active blast operations.
All Clear Signal: A prolonged horn or siren blast following the inspection of the blast area.

Please note: Blasting operations are also ongoing at the Glacier Rock Pit area as part of the Army Corps of Engineers harbor breakwater project.
