Details on the Officer Involved Shooting that occurred on 05-27-15
On May 27, 2015, at approximately 11:35 AM, Torrance Police officers recognized a passenger in a vehicle known to the officers as Jason Giovacchini. This subject was a wanted Parolee-at-Large who was considered Armed and Dangerous and had a felony arrest warrant for attempted murder. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle containing Giovacchini, and a short pursuit ensued, which ended in the 25400 block of Vermont Avenue, in the City of Harbor City.
The subject exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot into a gated housing community where an officer involved shooting occurred. Independent witnesses saw the suspect armed with a gun and a firearm was recovered at the scene. The suspect was shot and transported to a local hospital where he was being treated for non-life threatening injuries. No officers sustained any injuries during the incident.
This incident is being investigated under the command and direction of Captain Rod Irvine of the Special Operations Bureau and the assistance of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office who is reviewing this incident as is routine for all officer involved shootings.
