Press Release: Passing of Detective Sergeant John Green

NARRATIVE:
It is with great sadness and deep regret that the Township of Ocean Police Department announces the untimely death of Detective Sergeant John P. Green after a courageous battle with a long term illness.
Sergeant Green began his career with the Police Department as a Dispatcher in January 1999. He became Special Law Enforcement Officer II in 2001 and shortly thereafter became a full-time Police Officer in May of 2001 assigned to the Patrol Bureau. In June 2008 was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Bureau as a Detective. John was then promoted to Sergeant in 2009 and was assigned to the Patrol Bureau. In 2013, John was reassigned to the Criminal Investigation Bureau as a Detective Sergeant. He was also a member of the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART) and a Drug Abuse Resistance Education Officer (DARE).
During his career John had the honor of earning 3 life savings awards as well as numerous investigative excellences citations.
Sergeant Green was a certified 9-1-1 Telecommunications Instructor, EMT, Firefighter, and Police Explorer Advisor to Post 281. His devotion to serving his community extended to the Township Fire Departments where he served as a lifelong Volunteer Firefighter. He began in the Oakhurst Fire Department and transferred to Wanamassa Fire Department where he rose through the ranks to serve as Chief of the Department in 2006. He was the current Vice President of PBA 57 Superior Officers Association.
John had an unrivaled commitment to the community, the police department and his fellow officers. Detective Sergeant Green was a decorated 17 year veteran of the police department who will be greatly missed.
John was dedicated to his family and friends and would always go out of his way to help anyone in need. He is survived by his wife Aimee, two step daughters Ariana, age 15 and Jenna, age 12, his mother Angel Green and brother Aaron Green.
Funeral Arrangements are as follows: Viewing will be at Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Avenue, Long Branch N.J. on Friday, May 29, 2015 from 3PM to 8PM.
A funeral service will be offered at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1033
West Park Avenue, Ocean N.J., on Saturday, May 30, 2015 @ 1PM.
