Two Arrested; Responsible for Multiple Armed Robberies This Morning

Tuesday, May 26, 2015: About 9:00 AM this morning, an Oakland school police officer attempted to make a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle that had been reported stolen. The two people in the car appeared to be a match for armed robbery suspects responsible for over half a dozen armed robberies committed earlier in the morning. The officer pursued the suspects; the suspect vehicle crashed at the dead end of Davis Street right off of Fruitvale Avenue and the two suspects ran from the car. The officer observed that one was armed with a handgun.

Oakland Police officers responded to the scene and quickly set up a perimeter. Argus, the OPD helicopter, assisted with air support, providing officers with the direction the suspects took. Multiple calls from people in the neighborhood also provided information to the officers about which way the suspects were running. This assistance led officers to the 2300 block of Mitchell Street, where the suspects had forced entry into an unoccupied home. Officers surrounded the home, directed the suspects to surrender, and were able to arrest the two males in connection with the armed robberies. Officers continue to search the residence and surrounding area for firearms. Some of the victims’ loss has been recovered.

This is an ongoing investigation: anyone with information is encouraged to contact the OPD Robbery Section at 510-238-3326.
