APD investigating shots fired call on S. Washington. A 51 year old woman standing in her yard was struck more than a block away.
On Sunday May 24th at approximately 1:20pm, officers were sent to the 4100 block of S Washington on a report of shots fired. Upon arrival officers located several shell casings along the street. Witnesses described to officers that a B/M was talking with the occupants of a black vehicle that was stopped in the street, when the B/M started suddenly backing away from the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle proceeded to leave, going south bound on S Washington. As the vehicle was leaving, the B/M that had been talking to the occupants pulled out a semi automatic pistol and began firing shots towards the fleeing vehicle. The B/M suspect then retreated back inside a house for a few minutes then was last seen getting into a black Toyota sedan leaving the area. At the time officers could not locate the victim or other evidence of anything else being struck.
Approximately one hour later, APD officers were sent to a local hospital reference a victim of a gunshot wound. Officers spoke a W/F 51 who stated that she was standing in her driveway when she heard a “whizzing” sound and felt something strike her in the ankle. She assumed it was or rock or some other road debris from a passing car traveling down Washington. The victim did suffer a “grazing” gunshot wound to her right ankle. The victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries. There is no other description of the suspect or of the Toyota at this time.
