Pomona officers arrest suspect selling stolen property on www.craigslist.com

DATE / TIME: Between Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 11:50 PM and Sunday, May 17, 2015 at 1:00 AM.

LOCATION:   1400 E. Mission Blvd., Pomona, CA 91766

CRIME:  487(a) PC, GRAND THEFT 496(a) PC RECEIVING STOLEN PROPERTY

VICTIM:        1)  City of Pomona

                       2) Clark and Sons, Pomona, CA

SUSPECT:   Ricardo Rafael Ramirez, 39, Resident of Downey California

SUSPECT VEHICLE: 2000 Chevrolet S10

UNIT:   Patrol and Investigative Services Division

NARRATIVE:

On May 18, 2015, Pomona police officers responded to Clark and Sons to investigate a theft of commercial gate openers. The reporting party told officers when he arrived at the location the gate was closed and should have been open. The reporting party checked the gate and found that the gate opener was missing. The reporting party reviewed surveillance video with officers and determined the theft occurred between the indicated dates and time.

 

On May 20, 2015, the reporting party checked www.craigslist.com for the stolen property. The victim found the gate openers posted for sale and called the Pomona police department.

 

Patrol officers and detectives began an investigation in an attempt to recover the victim’s property. Detectives made contact with the person who placed the advertisement on Craigslist. Detectives and the suspect negotiated a purchase price for the gate opener and plans were made to meet.

 

Detectives and officers waited for the suspect to arrive. The suspect arrived as agreed and was contacted by detectives and officers. The suspect was found to be in possession of one stolen gate opener belonging to the victim and a second gate opener that was stolen from the City of Pomona.

 

The suspect was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property and booked at the Pomona City Jail. His bail is set at $20,000. The stolen property gate openers were returned to the victims.
