The preliminary autopsy result is undetermined as of now pending toxicology. Special Crimes investigators interviewed numerous individuals about this case and are asking for anyone with additional information to contact the unit. On May 16, 2015, officers of the Amarillo Police Department responded to a local hospital on a person who was deceased in the emergency room. It was reported that the person had been involved in some type of altercation at Homer’s Backyard Ball and was transported by ambulance to the ER where he died. Due to the suspicious nature of the person’s death, Special Crimes responded to investigate.
The deceased was identified as Michael Glen Wilcox, WM, age 43. Mr. Wilcox attended Homer’s Backyard Ball with a group of friends. At some point between 10:00 and 10:30 PM, a verbal altercation took place between Mr. Wilcox’s group and another group of people. Homer’s Backyard Ball security personnel responded to intervene. Several individuals in Mr. Wilcox’s group then became involved in verbal altercations with security personnel. Various security personnel deployed pepper spray, a baton, and a stun gun as well as used hand controls. Mr. Wilcox was taken to the ground and handcuffed. Mr. Wilcox became unresponsive and it appeared as if he was not breathing. An individual began life saving measures and an ambulance was called. Mr. Wilcox was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. It is unknown how Mr. Wilcox died and Justice of the Peace Debbie Horn ordered an autopsy, which will be performed Wednesday or Thursday in Lubbock.
