INCIDENT: Vehicle Pursuit

LOCATION: Richardson Street X Cooley Ave, San Bernardino

SUSPECT(S): Trinidad Martinez, 30 year old resident of San Bernardino

VICTIM(S):

SUMMARY: On Sunday, May 17, 2015, at approximately 6:30 p.m,, Deputy Ryan Cook was assigned to patrol the city of Loma Linda. Deputy Cook observed a traffic violation on a black 1994 Honda Civic traveling southbound on Richardson Street near Cooley Avenue. Deputy Cook attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle by activating the emergency lights and siren on the marked patrol unit. The driver of the Honda Civic accelerated and continued southbound on Richardson Street into Loma Linda. The driver, later identified as Trinidad Martinez, led deputies on a high speed pursuit through Loma Linda and San Bernardino. Martinez reached speeds in excess of 80 MPH while running stop signs and traffic lights. Martinez eventually abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot in the 25000 block of 5th Street in the city of Highland. Martinez was located by deputies in the rear yard of a residence, where he was taken into custody without further incident. Inside the black Honda Civic, deputies located a loaded sawed off shotgun and suspected methamphetamine packaged for sale.

Martinez was transported and booked into the Central Detention Center for Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felony Evading and Possession for Sale of Methamphetamine While Armed.

Suspect Martinez also had an outstanding No Bail Arrest Warrant for a violation of his PRCS Probation for Illegal Drug Sales. Felony PRCS Release was created as a result of California Assembly Bill 109.

As part of Governor Jerry Brown's Realignment Plan, or Assembly Bill 109, to comply with a U.S. Supreme Court Decision requiring the state to lower its prison population; offenders with non-violent, non-sexual and non-serious convictions will serve reduced sentences in county jails and be placed on local supervision through county Probation.
