We want everyone to know this info and we hope this helps makes the camping restrictions easier to follow.
Day use near the water is okay, but camping is not allowed. Day use means you can drive down next to the shore, swim, barbecue, ride watercraft, etc. and enjoy the day. But, please don't set up for overnight camping.
Also, camping close to and along Sand Dunes Road between the third restroom and west to the intersection with Powerline Road is not permitted. This is the area which gets congested where camps too close to the road pinch off the traffic flow.
We want everyone to have a good time, but we have to balance that good time with our ability to keep the dunes safe and be able to quickly get access to people who are hurt or in need of police help.
The Memorial Day weekend, July 4 weekend (this year) and Labor Day weekend all attract many more people to the dunes. We're asking everyone to help us with this so we can be able to help those who need our help.
